The 2019 cross country season was full of new PRs and club records for many and ended in an exciting postseason. After long months of training up and down the cincy hills, our men's team was able to finish 4th and the women 6th at NIRCA Regionals on November 2nd. The Regionals race was held at the Blue River Cross Country course in Shelbyville, Indiana, same course as last year so some were familiar with the terrain. Crossing the finish line first for the Bearcats were Nick DeHaven who raced to a 4th place finish in 25:44 for the mens 8k and Caitlyn Walsh who finished 11th in 23:46 for the women. Two weeks later the team traveled to Richmond, Virginia to finish off the season at NIRCA Nationals. It was a cold morning on the course and we even got lucky with a bit of wind as well. The field proved to be fast and competitive and once again Cincinnati had a great day of improvements by many of our runners. The men showed up to Nationals with an impressive group of 15 runners. One group of seven men raced in the Championship race and they placed 14th as a team. Then there were 3 that ran in the freshman/sophomore division and 5 in the junior/senior division. The women qualified for the Championship race with their performance at Regionals but sadly 2 of them couldn't make it too the National meet. However the 4 women that made it to Richmond still had great races with PRs all around. The trip and exciting race was a fun way to end the long season of workouts and mileage buildup and only got us excited for more racing in the next year (after a nice break of course). We can't wait to see what next cross country season will bring and where our graduating seniors will take their fast legs next!
