Course and weather conditions looked ideal for a great day of racing at the Blue River Cross Country Course in Shelbyville, Indiana. The route featured an almost completely flat layout through grassy fields, with only one small section of rolling hills. The men's race would start off the day in exciting fashion!
13 teams would be competing for the Great Lakes Regional title. Finishing with an outstanding 3rd place finish for Cincinnati would be Jack Randall (25:39, 3rd). Also finishing in a top 10 spot would be Kyle Klingler (26:24, 10th). The rest of the top 7 was as follows: Max Hoffman (26:40, 13th), Sean Kane (26:44, 18th), Joey Stimler (27:12, 36th), Andrew Patty (27:54, 56th), and Karl Mueller (28:15, 72nd). The men would finish 2nd overall only behind Indiana University who has won the region six years in a row. Only 3 points behind, Michigan would grab the final award winning top 3 spot.
The women's race would follow with 12 teams competing. UC brought in a couple new faces to the NIRCA scene for their first 6k. Leading the way for the girls would be Brittany Cain (26:10, 54th) with a tight pack following closely behind. The rest of the top 7 was as follows: Hannah Beitzinger (26:16, 58th), Emily Belovich (26:39, 62nd), Nicole Haffey (26:43, 63rd), Jessica Hobart (26:58, 71st), Lily Deller (27:00, 73rd), and Shawna Siefker (28:04, 98th). The women would finish in 10th place.
The Great Lakes Regional exceeded expectations bringing about some of the fastest times of the season and excitement going into the National meet in a few weeks. Looking forward to finishing the cross country season strong!
