Our History: |
The UC Running Club was founded in 2003 by Josh Stevens. Initially, membership was sparse, with only a core group of runners. Then, enter Mike Brothers. From 2005-2008 the Running Club was led under the direction of Mike. He formed the club’s organization and beliefs: “Running can be fun, if approached correctly”.
In the Fall of 2008, the UC Running Club underwent an organization and executive shift. The graduation of Mike Brothers allowed Adam Hehr to take over who was appointed by Brothers himself. Adam had a new version of the club and decided to do things a little differently. It was decided to split the executive authority among 6 people: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Webmaster, and Faculty Advisor. This allowed club to input more ideas and spread the workload. In 2011 Kelly Meyer took over Running Club president and kept these same ideas and concepts. After her graduation, Nick Kienzle was appointed to his presidency. Nick would lead the club for two years. After Nick, Jack Randall would take over and lead the club for two years. During these years, the club would see the most growth and competitiveness it ever has. Bryan Wilson and Sean Kane led the club through to 2018. Grant Powers and Gunnar Stockman took over in 2018 and 2019. Following the success of 2019, Jack Barchet and Gunnar Stockman helmed the club for a difficult 2020, with Barchet training relentlessly, and landing himself a spot on the varsity team for the following year. Now looking forward to the power vacuum of 2021, the club will be led by Jay Wilson as President (continuing the dynasty set forth by Bryan) and Ben Shafron as Vice President. |
