UC Running Club got an early start to their Saturday, departing from Cincinnati at 6:45am. Arrival to Mounds State Park in Indiana, was sometime just after 9am. The weather was beautiful and the course was looking good. Also, there wasn't anything lacking in the area of competition. On the women's side, 4th ranked Michigan and 9th ranked Indiana would be running. And on the men's side, they had 1st ranked Indiana and 8th ranked Michigan. Things shaped up to be a very good meet.
The girls race would kick off the meet at 11am. They would run a 6k, which was virtually a 3k loop twice around the park. Besides on big hill that they would run twice, it was laid out to be pretty quick. Alex Ballinger (40th, 27:05) would be the first UC girl to come through the finish line. Next up would be Hannah Beitzinger (58th, 28:07). And to finish off our girls would be Gabby Bobadilla (71st, 29:14). Michigan's girls would win the meet, beating out Indiana by 15 points.
Then came the Men's 8k. This race would feature the same course the women ran with an added 2k loop at the end. Cincinnati would place two runners in the top 10. Alexander Chappers (5th, 27:26) and Jack Randall (7th, 27:35) would be the only runners in the top 10 not from Indiana or Michigan. Next up would be two first time 8k runners, Kyle Klingler (18th, 28:27) and Bryan Wilson (22nd, 28:41). To round out the top 7 would be Stephen Pair (31st, 29:15), Dan Scurry (35th, 29:22), and Phil Horn (61st, 30:50). The men scored 76 points which was good enough for an award-winning 3rd place, behind Michigan (2nd) and Indiana (1st). One of the best finishes ever at MC5 for Cincinnati. Overall this was a great way to start of the NIRCA season, and things are only looking brighter!
