The UC Running Club made it's season debut at the 35th annual Queen City Invitational this past weekend. The race featured seven college teams while UC stood as the lone club team. This made for a very competitive race to start off the year! The weather and course were also very ideal for racing, which made for many impressive performances.
The men's race started off at the meet at 9:00AM. They would finish 7th out of 8 teams overall. Former club president Jack Randall (19:29, 27th) would lead the way with the 2nd fastest 6k mark in the club's history. Also breaking the 20 minute mark with the 3rd fastest mark ever would be Kyle Klingler (19:38, 30th). To round out the top 7 would be Max Hoffman (20:13, 48th), Andrew Patty (20:22.5, 49th), Sean Kane (20:22.7, 50th), Dylan Rusek (21:15, 66th), and Vincent King (21:17, 67th). As a team, these times were significantly faster than last year and showed the impact of the many new runners that have joined the club.
The women's race would follow with 8 colleges represented as well as UC being the only club. They placed 8th out of 9 teams overall. Leading the way in her first club race ever would be Stephanie Paul (25:34, 69th). Next up was another new member Brittany Cain (26:16, 75th) followed by some familiar faces and a few other newbies: Hannah Beitzinger (27:32.2, 81st), Lily Deller (27:32.5, 82nd), Savannah McCray (28:16, 83rd), and Nicole Haffey (29:08, 85th). A great start as well for the girls!
All-in-all, it was an awesome meet to begin the cross country season. So many new faces and great showings. This is looking to be the best club team in history!
