The University of Cincinnati Running Club jumped the gun to their indoor season on February 2, 2018 at Otterbein University. We had 13 athletes run; 4 women and 9 men. Three freshman girls ran the mile and showed great potential. Lauren Kemper, Ellie Holiday, and Amanda Deviller ran 5:41, 5:59. and 6:34 respectively. These three freshman have a great season ahead of them and this is a good starting place.
Sonja Kosir, a freshman as well, became the first University of Cincinnati Running Club high jumper. She jumped 4"6' on her first try and cleared 4"8' on her second try. She cleared 4"8' and now holds the club record in the high jump. It will be exciting to see how Sonja progresed throughout the season, as she shoots to clear 4"10' next and keep moving up.
The men are off to a really good start. Both the 3k and the mile club records were broken this weekend. In the mile, Joey Schlich lead the bearcats and crossed the line in 9:05, crushing the club record by seconds. He was followed by Sean Kane (9:22), Gunnar Stockman (10:05), Matthew Newman (10:05), and Jake Carlson (10:39). Four men toed the line for the mile. THey were led by freshman Jack Cordonnier and Jon Harley who both crossed the line at 4:30, breaking club records again for the men's mile. They were followed by Dylan Rusek (4:55) and Nathan Hohulin (5:18).
The cats are off to a great start of the track season and only look to improve from here. There next meet will be Mid March and will be on an outdoor track, which should be more ideal. Cats by five like always!
