NIRCA Cross Country Nationals 2017 once again did not disappoint. Cincinnati made the 7-8 hour drive out to Pennsylvania for a long weekend filled with some great times. Solid weather on a tough course made for some exciting races on the day!
On the men's side, they would finish with a 10th place finish which was good for the best finish in club history. That finish fulfilled the 10th place pre nationals ranking as well. Leading the way in All American fashion would once again be Jack Randall (26:23, 13th) who executed a very great race. The rest of top 5 would follow: Kyle Klingler (26:59, 43rd), Max Hoffman (27:20, 77th), Joey Stimler (27:49, 109th), and Sean Kane (28:05, 128th). This was a massive improvement to last years 25th place finish, capping off an incredible year for the men's team.
The women would post some impressive results on the day as well. After missing out on regionals, Stephanie Paul (25:38, 117th) would return as the team's top runner. The rest of the top 5 would follow: Emily Belovich (26:12, 153rd), Nicole Haffey (26:45, 183rd), Hannah Beitzinger (27:12, 218th), and Lily Deller (27:53, 240th). A solid way to end a very successful season as well.
Many impressive races were had in the B races as well, making it an all around fantastic meet for the UC Running club. This concludes a record breaking year both in times and number of competitors. The future is bright in Cincinnati!
Course and weather conditions looked ideal for a great day of racing at the Blue River Cross Country Course in Shelbyville, Indiana. The route featured an almost completely flat layout through grassy fields, with only one small section of rolling hills. The men's race would start off the day in exciting fashion!
13 teams would be competing for the Great Lakes Regional title. Finishing with an outstanding 3rd place finish for Cincinnati would be Jack Randall (25:39, 3rd). Also finishing in a top 10 spot would be Kyle Klingler (26:24, 10th). The rest of the top 7 was as follows: Max Hoffman (26:40, 13th), Sean Kane (26:44, 18th), Joey Stimler (27:12, 36th), Andrew Patty (27:54, 56th), and Karl Mueller (28:15, 72nd). The men would finish 2nd overall only behind Indiana University who has won the region six years in a row. Only 3 points behind, Michigan would grab the final award winning top 3 spot.
The women's race would follow with 12 teams competing. UC brought in a couple new faces to the NIRCA scene for their first 6k. Leading the way for the girls would be Brittany Cain (26:10, 54th) with a tight pack following closely behind. The rest of the top 7 was as follows: Hannah Beitzinger (26:16, 58th), Emily Belovich (26:39, 62nd), Nicole Haffey (26:43, 63rd), Jessica Hobart (26:58, 71st), Lily Deller (27:00, 73rd), and Shawna Siefker (28:04, 98th). The women would finish in 10th place.
The Great Lakes Regional exceeded expectations bringing about some of the fastest times of the season and excitement going into the National meet in a few weeks. Looking forward to finishing the cross country season strong!
The UC Running Club once again traveled to Mounds State Park in Anderson, IN for the annual MC5 meet! Weather conditions looked ideal for some solid races despite racing on the tough course. The race would feature most of the Great Lakes Regional competition.
The women would start the day with a 6k, and to lead off for them would be Stephanie Paul (26:12, 11th) just shy of a medal! To follow would be: Hannah Beitzinger (29:08, 52nd), Savannah McCray (29:31, 57th), Nicole Haffey (29:37, 59th), Shawna Siefker (30:18, 70th), and Catherine Fadden (31:18, 80th). They would place 8th out of 9 teams!
The men would follow with an 8k race. This would follow the same course as the women with an extra 2k loop added on. Jack Randall (27:33, 2nd) would lead the way with an incredible runner up finish! Kyle Klingler (27:48, 6th) would also grab a top 10 spot and an award. The men would place 3rd out of 9 teams.
This was probably the best performance from the UC Running Club in history for MC5. A fantastic way to start the NIRCA season!
Results Link will be added once they are on NIRCA's site.
The UC Running Club made it's season debut at the 35th annual Queen City Invitational this past weekend. The race featured seven college teams while UC stood as the lone club team. This made for a very competitive race to start off the year! The weather and course were also very ideal for racing, which made for many impressive performances.
The men's race started off at the meet at 9:00AM. They would finish 7th out of 8 teams overall. Former club president Jack Randall (19:29, 27th) would lead the way with the 2nd fastest 6k mark in the club's history. Also breaking the 20 minute mark with the 3rd fastest mark ever would be Kyle Klingler (19:38, 30th). To round out the top 7 would be Max Hoffman (20:13, 48th), Andrew Patty (20:22.5, 49th), Sean Kane (20:22.7, 50th), Dylan Rusek (21:15, 66th), and Vincent King (21:17, 67th). As a team, these times were significantly faster than last year and showed the impact of the many new runners that have joined the club.
The women's race would follow with 8 colleges represented as well as UC being the only club. They placed 8th out of 9 teams overall. Leading the way in her first club race ever would be Stephanie Paul (25:34, 69th). Next up was another new member Brittany Cain (26:16, 75th) followed by some familiar faces and a few other newbies: Hannah Beitzinger (27:32.2, 81st), Lily Deller (27:32.5, 82nd), Savannah McCray (28:16, 83rd), and Nicole Haffey (29:08, 85th). A great start as well for the girls!
All-in-all, it was an awesome meet to begin the cross country season. So many new faces and great showings. This is looking to be the best club team in history!
Cincinnati made it's way out to Masterson Station Park in Lexington, KY to conclude the 2015 cross country season. Numerous teams across the whole country would be showing up to run on the biggest club stage. Weather and course conditions were looking all set for a solid day of racing! To start off in the Men's B race, Phil Horn (27:42, 22nd) would pull out a huge race and finish in the top 10 all-time marks for an 8k! Also finishing in sub 30 finishes were Stephen Pair (29:25, 117th) and Colin McNally (29:43, 145th). No women competed in the Women's B race for UC.
Next would be the A races! The women had a great showing and placed as a team for the first time in awhile. The top 3 finishers were: Magen Brailey (27:22, 117th), Gabby Bobadilla (26:04, 154th), and Catherine Fadden (26:41, 193rd). Team places have not been posted so the official standings are not available. Great job though ladies! And finally, the Men's A race would cap off a long day of racing. The top 3 finishers for the men were: Kyle Klingler (27:08, 108th), Joey Stimler (27:20, 123rd), and Jeffery Griffiths (27:33, 140th). The men would place 25th overall out of 50 teams. A solid placing in one of the most competitive NIRCA races ever!
Overall, it was arguably the most successful season in UC Club Running history. We had the most runners compete and the record boards were changed frequently. We look forward to track season and eventually next CC season when we look to return most of our top runners. Great things ahead of the UC Running Club!
After a tough regional race last year, Cincinnati came into this year with higher expectations. The weather was looking prime and the course was looking decently flat. Everything looked clear to have a solid race!
On the men's side, UC would bring it's top 7 very close together with the absence of Jeff Griffiths. A new face would lead the team in Steven Zombory (28:07, 33rd). This mark would also be good enough to place in the top 10 all-time! Following close behind would be Kyle Klingler (28:14, 35th), and to finish out the top 5 would be a tight pack of Joey Stimler (28:32, 45th), Jack Randall (28:33, 46th), and Sean Kane (28:33, 47th). Also making the top 7 would be Sean Batt (28:58, 60th) and Bryan Wilson (29:08, 62nd). This would place the guys in 7th as a team.
On the women's side, there were quite a bit of timing and placing errors. However Magen Brailey (24:57, 22nd) would lead the team followed by Alex Ballinger (26:26, 39th). Hannah Beitzinger (27:56, 72nd) and Catherine Fadden (28:14, 77th) would finish closely to bring up 3rd and 4th. The timing errors affected Gabby Bobadilla and Lily Dellers results so we do not have the official time and placing there. Besides that, great job!
Although regionals wasn't as great as we expected due to errors with results and the course being measured long, we look ahead to the National meet on November 14th. We expect to have our best showing ever with the biggest team in history! Shock the world!
The UC Running Club got off to an very early start Saturday morning, departing from Cincinnati at 6:20AM to head to Mounds State Park, Indiana. The first race of the day would be at 10:00AM with the Women's 6k. Followed by the Men's 8k at 11:00AM, and awards at 12:30PM. The weather was looking to be a great day for racing with it being just a bit cooler in the morning and light overcast. However, this course is known to be pretty tough with the amount of hills and rough footing so it would be a challenge for sure. No matter what the conditions, Cincinnati was ready to leave it all on the course for the debut of the NIRCA season.
One of the most exciting parts of the day was that the UC women would finally be scoring as a team again after barely not having enough all last year. They would place 7th as a team with some impressive individual finishes! To lead the team, Magen Brailey (26:04, 11th) would narrowly miss receiving a top 10 medal. Still an incredible performance from a first year club runner! The rest of the girls were as follows: Alex Ballinger (26:40, 23rd), Gabby Bobadilla (27:18, 33rd), Catherine Fadden (27:38, 43rd), Hannah Beitzinger (28:43, 62nd), and Lily Deller (29:29, 71st). The women will gain even more runners in upcoming races, so it's very exciting to see how they will continue to advance as a team this season!
Another awesome feature to the meet, would be the men's largest team in running club in history! They would have 18 guys come out to race, so a lot of first time club runners. These new faces would definitely make themselves known as the team grabbed a 3rd place finish. To lead the team, Jeffery Griffiths (28:13, 6th) would grab a top 10 medal for his first NIRCA race. The rest of the top 7 were as follows: Sean Kane (28:31, 12th), Kyle Klingler (29:15, 27th), Joey Stimler (29:33, 38th), Jack Randall (29:47, 45th), Mark Gruenbacher (31:12, 80th), and Stephen Pair (31:29, 88th). That's four of the seven that were first time NIRCA runners! Great job everyone!
Although the times were not too desirable, the placing was very good by everyone. It was a great meet overall to have the overall biggest team in history, and it will only get better as more plan to be at the next meets. Looking forward to the next meet on October 24th at NIRCA Regionals!
The UC Running Club once again started their season off at the annual Queen City Invitational in Mason, OH. This meet is run by the UC Varsity team and featured a 6k event for both Men and Women this year. All participants from the club had an outstanding showing!
On the men's side, the club finished in 8th place out of 12 NCAA teams. New member Jeff Griffiths was the first finisher for the club with a blazing time of 19:01. That was good enough for 13th place. The rest of the top 5 were as follows: Sean Kane (20:39, 66th), Joey Stimler (20:56, 73rd), Michael Christman (20:59, 77th), and Bryan Wilson (21:02, 79th).
As for the women, they were able to score as team! This is very exciting as they narrowly missed the ability to score for all of last season. They finished 11th overall out of 14 teams. The first finisher was also a new member, Magen Brailey. She completed the course in 24:29 and that was good for 48th place. The rest of the top 5 were as follows: Gabby Bobadilla (26:10, 89th), Hannah Beitzinger (26:57, 100th), Alex Ballinger (27:24, 104th), and Lily Deller (29:25, 114th).
Great job to everyone! Especially the new members already making a name for themselves! We look forward to our next meet, and first NIRCA race, on September 26th at MC5!
This was also the fastest mark for a half marathon by a UC club runner! Following Alex for UC in order was Daniel Scurry (1:16:26, 13th place), Bryan Wilson (1:19:53, 28th place), and Nick Kienzle (1:21:50, 41st place).
Juliana Madzia led the women of UC placing 2nd among women and 43rd overall with a time of 1:22:27. The other women competitors were Alex Ballinger (1:37:59, 185th place), Gabby Bobadilla (1:40:39, 232nd place), and Hannah Beitzinger (1:43:26, 270th place). For more detailed results, see the link below.
Aside from the race, the weekend was fun for all the runners, highlighted by an appearance at the race by Jared Fogle, better known as Jared from Subway. While Dan and Alex did SEE Jared, none of the UC runners were able to get autographs or pictures with him, so his greatness will have to live on with us through our memories.
